Manilla 2005 XC competition
In order to not leave everyone totally without an event in Manilla in 2005 - and reasons to drink and party..... Godfrey Wenness is working on a Manilla XC Open concept for the first two weeks of January 2005 - a bit like XCeara and the WRE Zapata Texas ones but with less hard core flying - just fun XC every day in one direction - much like the tasks already but keep going until the day is over.
Details so far :
- Sunday 2nd - Friday 14th January 2005 (12 days)
- max A$8000 in cash prizes : A$5000 for the World record, A$2000 best team , A$1000 best solo.
- very likely FAI cat 2 and Australian A
- small entry fee A$60-80
- Open distance everyday, no windows or launch control - only turn direction
- scoring using RACE (ie: 1000pts per day)
- SMS, phone or radio landing co-ords (random GPS track checks).
- 150 pilots max
- minimum organisation (just scoring, hill weather brief at 10am, cheap Borah Basher tickets - no BBQ's or dinners etc)
- t-shirt at cost (must pre-order)
- Pilots to make their own pick up teams.
- 4 pilots per scoring team - best 2 scores each day count (no handicap system)
- Teams can split into 2x 4 for part weeks - 6 days for one team and 6 days for the other to allow for those who can only stay 1 week.
- 12 days flying - best 8 days (or 2/3 days) count so you can drop days or take a break BUT each day is still worth 1000pts if flown !
- day cancel option if its too windy or unsafe.
- The organisation is ONLY here to score and provide weather info - NOT to be responsible for pilots - Pilots teams are responsible for themselves at ALL times !!!!!!!!!
The idea is to run a simple, easy and fun XC comp - most pilots come here to fly XC anyway - so this just adds some competition spice to whole thing.
